Archbishop Timothy Broglio

“The denial of religious accommodations, or punitive or adverse personnel actions taken against those who raise earnest, conscience-based objections, would be contrary to federal law and morally reprehensible.”

Archbishop Timothy Broglio

Today, Archbishop Timothy Broglio issued a beautifully worded STATEMENT on Coronavirus Vaccines and the Sanctity of Conscience. We most graciously and humbly Thank You Most Reverend Archbishop for your honor, courage & commitment in caring for your sheep in service to both our Church and our Nation!

After being contacted by military families, [Yvonne included, as wife of a retiree], who are facing unprecedented anguish, we formed a plan and took action. Our united voices {Active Duty, Reservists, Retirees and Veterans} called and sent hundreds of emails encouraging the Archbishop to to issue a statement in support of Active Duty and Reserve Service Members seeking religious exemptions to Covid vaccination.

Many families had been directly told by their commands that they would be denied any religious exemptions and could face punishment and/or involuntary discharge for their refusal to take the vaccine. Some even, dishonorable discharge! Our Military members are being forced to act in contradiction to their conscience and be forced to end their careers. No one should ever have to be put in such a detrimental position!

The Archbishop made it perfectly clear that Service Members have the right to conscience as stated by Church teaching and that Service Members “must continue to act in charity for their neighbors and for the common good by undertaking means to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 through wearing face coverings, social distancing, undergoing routine testing, quarantining, and remaining open to receiving a treatment should one become available
that is not derived from, or tested with abortion-derived cell lines.

Stay tuned friends, this isn’t over yet as the various Military entities and the Department of Defense will need to respond to this latest development. We here at Taking Recourse will keep you updated as information becomes available.
